SDSU Softball Lose to Utah In Conference Championship

PROVO, Utah - The San Diego State softball team (41-22-1) lost to Utah, 8-1, today in the Mountain West Conference championship game at Gail Miller Field in Provo, Utah. The Aztecs will learn tomorrow if they are selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament.

The game was scoreless going into the top of the second, when the Utes loaded the bases and scored five times and again scored a single run in the sixth. Utah scoring was capped with two home runs.

Junior Amber Grahlam hit an RBI single, sending Tiffany Goudy in for the Aztecs' single run. Five other Aztec hit singles, including Kellie Nordhagen (1-for-4), Joann Figueroa (1-for-3), Goudy (1-for-3), Sarah Hershman (1-for-3) and Kelcy Murphy (1-for-3).

Bre DeSanta took the loss in the circle, dropping her record to 20-9. Jeni Tornquist and Jessi Green each pitched in relief.

Murphy, Nordhagen and Bre DeSanta were named to the Mountain West Conference all-tournament team.

The Aztec softball team invites the public to the Aztec Athletics Center auditorium tomorrow to watch the NCAA Softball Selection Show. The broadcast in scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
