SAN DIEGO - If great minds think alike, the San Diego State women's basketball program is off to a good start under head coach Jim Tomey.
Tomey, named to the post April 9th, today made his first hire, naming Bellflower St. John Bosco High School boys head coach Matt Hart as his first assistant.
"He has just a ton of experience in many different areas," said Tomey. "I have a long history with him, and he is a great hire for SDSU."
A successful high school coach and former Division I assistant, Hart arrives at San Diego State after following a similar path to the Mesa as Tomey. Most recently, Hart served as head coach of the boys basketball program at Bosco, guiding the Braves to a 65-47 record and three CIF playoff appearances. Hart had similar success at La Puente Bishop Amat, leading the Lancers to the CIF berths in both 1997 and '98.
Prior to his six-year stint as a high school boys coach, Hart was an assistant under George Raveling at USC and Seth Greenberg at Long Beach State, Hart's alma mater.
Hart also brings a with a wealth of camp experience with him to SDSU, serving as director of Greenberg's camps at Long Beach State, commissioner of the Nike All-America Camp and commissioner of the Michael Jordan Camp.
