Water Polo Falls to San Jose State

LOS ANGELES - The seventh-seeded San Diego State water polo team fell to No. 6 seed San Jose State, 5-4, in the consolation bracket of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship at USC's McDonald Swim Center, Saturday afternoon.

San Diego State grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Spartans responded with a 4-1 run to win the game.

Casey Finnegan led the Aztecs with two goals, with Holly Hartzell and Heidi Matsumoto each adding a goal to the Aztec total. Heather Stiles recorded eight saves in the cage.

San Diego State will play its final game of the championship against eighth-seeded Hawaii, Sunday at 12:30 for seventh-place. The Aztecs now hold a 19-15 record and are 6-8 in MPSF play.
