WALNUT, Calif. - The San Diego State track and field team recorded 13 top-five finishes, set an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark in the 4x400-meter relay and had three athletes set career bests at this weekend's Mt. San Antonio College Relays held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Mt. SAC Stadium.
Highlighting action on Sunday, was the 4x400 relay team of Jini Hogg, Tonette Dyer, Hollann Givens and Ryan Peters, which ran to a fifth-place time of 3:37.27. The time is the quartet's second NCAA provisional mark of the season, with the previous being a time of 3:36.82.
Sunday was a busy day for Hogg and Dyer, with Hogg recorded a first-place finish in the 200 meters (24.09) and Dyer a top finish in the 400 meters (52.48). Dyer's time in the 400 is the fastest by an Aztec this season. The pair were also part of Sunday's relay squad that placed first in the 4x100 with a time of 45.48.
Also on Sunday, Leslie Miller raced to a fourth-place, season-best and career-best time of 14.00 in Heat B of the 100 hurdles.
Competition on Saturday, saw Hogg set a personal best of 54.32 in the 400 meters, good for second place in Heat B. Givens also set a career best in the 400 meters, racing to a second-place time of 55.43 in Heat A.
Aztec pole vaulters Jesika Englebretson and Shayla Balentine placed fourth and seventh, respectively, on Saturday. Both cleared 11-11.75 (3.65m), with Englebretson taking fourth with fewer misses.
Friday's action was light, with Hillery Gemmill placing eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12.06.4).
On April, 27th, the squad will split with some traveling to the Oregon Invitational and others heading across town to the UC San Diego Invitational.
