SAN DIEGO - The 41st-ranked San Diego State men's tennis team won the first five singles matches in straight sets en route to a 6-1 decision over 75th-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
The Aztecs, playing just their second home match of the season, improved to 5-0 against teams not ranked in the nation's top 10. All 10 of San Diego State's opponents this season have been against nationally-ranked teams.
San Diego State's nationally ranked singles and doubles players continued their winning ways. Sophomore Oliver Maiberger, ranked 28th nationally, defeated 42nd-ranked Carlos Palencia, 6-4, 6-4 in number one singles. In number two singles, Felix Hardt recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Marcin Kosakowski.
In doubles action, the third-ranked team of Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo claimed an 8-5 victory over Carlos Palencia and Marcin Kosakowski 8-5.
The Aztecs will be back in action on at one of the nation's premiere tennis events, the Blue-Gray Tournament in Mobile, Ala., March 16-19.
