Aztec Sprinters Come On Strong In Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. - San Diego State junior Melinda Smedley and sophomore Tonette Dyer had strong showings at this weekend's Willie Williams Classic held at the University of Arizona's Roy P. Drachman Stadium.

Smedley took first-place honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.37. The win was her third straight in the 200 meters, after taking the top spot in the event at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 9 and at the USC Invite on March 2.

Dyer finished fifth in the 200 meters, clocking in at 25.01.

The sprint duo also took fourth and fifth in the 100-meter dash, with Smedley finishing fourth (12.02) and Dyer fifth (12.21).

The SDSU track program returns to action tomorrow when it competes against Southern California in the Trojan Classic in Los Angeles
