Aztec Water Polo Splits First Day of UCSD Tournament

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State water polo team split the first day at the UCSD No Grip Tournament in Canyonview Pool. The Aztecs beat Cal Baptist 12-11, but couldn't comeback as Loyola Marymount won 5-3.

The Aztecs scored quick in the first game, putting four up in the first quarter. Cal Baptist made a comeback, but couldn't keep up with the high-scoring offense of the Aztecs.

Sophomore Holly Hartzell led the Aztecs with five goals, followed by junior Amber Prestegard with three. Heidi Matsumoto, Dominique Delgado, Casey Finnegan and Ashleigh May each scored one goal.

Loyola Marymount appeared to be too much for the Aztecs after scoring two goals in each of the last two quarters sealing a 5-3 victory.

Hartzell, Matsumoto and Donna Stivers put points on the board for State.
