SDSU Relay Teams Set School Records At MWC Swim Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - San Diego State set school records in both the 200-yard medley relay and 800 freestyle relay on Wednesday in the first day of the 2002 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The four-day event is being held at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatics Center.

The Aztec team of Meghan Casillan, Jill Karacozoff, Tara Johnson and Heather DeFelice raced to a school-record and fourth-place mark of 1:45.91 in the 200 medley relay, besting the time of 1:46.51 Casillan, DeFelice, Johnson and Hannah Ryan set at last season's league championship meet.

The other swimming event of the day saw the Aztecs' quartet of Megan Storey, Hannah Ryan, Jennifer Graham and Erin Kilpatrick clock a school-record and seventh-place time of 7:38.02 in the 800 freestyle relay. That mark surpassed the time of 7:37.64 that Ryan, Storey, Kilpatrick and Erin Smith set last season.

Competition also took place in the 1-meter diving event, but no SDSU athletes competed.

SDSU sits in seventh-place in the team scoring with 54 points. Colorado State has an early lead with 101 points, followed by Air Force (90) and Brigham Young (86).

The championships continue on Thursday with prelims at 11 a.m. CT and finals at 6 p.m. CT.
