COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Melinda Smedley had a pair of fourth-place finishes on Saturday in the final day of the 2002 McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event was held at Cadet Fieldhouse on the Air Force Academy campus.
Smedley's fourth-place times came in the 200-meter dash (24.54) and in the 60-meter dash (7.66). She was paced by sophomore Tonette Dyer in both events, with Dyer coming in fifth (24.57) in the 200 meters and sixth (7.71) in the 60 meters. Sophomore Jillita Griffin finished eighth (7.74) in the 60 meters
SDSU had two other fourth-place finishes on the day. The first came by way of junior Jini Hogg, who raced to a time of 55.91 in the 400-meter dash. The other was by freshman Alisha Lasswell, who set a 1.67 meter (5-05.75) mark in the high jump.
The Aztecs's highest finish of the day came in the form of a third-place finish (3:50.78) in the mile relay.
Junior Jennifer Stakiw raced to a seventh-place time of 2:16.91 in the 800-meter run.
SDSU came in sixth as a team with 58.50 points. Brigham Young won the event with 175 points. Colorado State and Wyoming rounded out the top three with 131 and 101 points, respectively.
The Aztecs return to action on Mar. 2 when they open the outdoor season at the Southern California Trojan Invitational.
