RENO, Nev. - Two San Diego State pole vaulters, senior Tricia Gutierrez and freshman Shayla Balentine, set school record and NCAA provisional marks at this weekend's National Pole Vault Summit. The event was held at Hilton Pavilion.
Gutierrez and Balentine both vaulted 3.90 meters (12-09.50), helping them surpass the NCAA provisional mark of 3.80 meters (12-05.50) and outdo the previous indoor school record of 12-07.50 Gutierrez set last season at the Bill Cosby Invitational. Gutierrez's mark was also a personal best.
Three other Aztecs also competed in the event, with sophomore Jesika Englebretson recording a mark of 3.50 meters (11-05.75), freshman Beth Vieira cleared 3.30 meters (10-10) and freshman Julie Hudlow set a personal-best mark of 3.20 meters (10-6).
SDSU continues its indoor season on Feb. 2 in Reno, Nev., when it competes at the Bill Cosby Invitational.
