LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The San Diego State women's swim team closed out competition at the UNLV Winter Invitational Saturday with a second-place finish. The Aztecs wrapped up the three-day event, which was held at Buchanan Natatorium on the UNLV campus, with 682 points.
SDSU, which set five season-best times on Saturday, scored its 15th 1-2 finish this season when senior Meghan Casillan and freshman Ericka Sjoholm finished first (2:05.42) and second (2:08.68), respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke. Casillan's time is a season best in the event.
Other season bests on the day came courtesy of sophomore Megan Storey who placed third in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:01.34 and senior Heather DeFelice's fourth-place time of 53.15 in the 100 free. Junior Erin Kilpatrick's time of 2:08.72 in the prelims of the 200 butterfly was the fastest by any Aztec this season in that event. Kilpatrick and senior Tara Johnson finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 fly finals.
The Aztecs' 400 freestyle relay team of sophomores Jennifer Graham and Hannah Ryan and Kilpatrick and DeFelice raced to a fourth-place finish in a season best 3:35.81.
Freshman Jennifer Arrow placed fourth in the 200 breatstroke, clocking in at 2:25.85.
UNLV took the events top honors with 850.50 points. SDSU finished a space above Fresno State (588).
SDSU returns to action on Sat., Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. when it plays host to Northern Arizona. All home meets this season are held at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.
