CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The San Diego State women's swimming and diving team won 12 of 14 swimming events and defeated Air Force 93-47 and New Mexico 94-46 in double-dual competition Saturday at Southwestern College.
The Aztecs finished with a 1-2 sweep in five events - the 200-yard and 500 freestyle, 100 and 200 breaststroke and 400 free relay.
The Aztec pair of sophomore Hannah Ryan and junior Erin Kilpatrick took 1-2 in the 200 free with 1:56.06 and 1:56.09 clockings, respectively. Senior Heather DeFelice (1:06.13) and freshman Jennifer Arrow (1:08.91) owned the 100 breast. Arrow also placed second (2:28.91) in the 200 breast behind SDSU sophomore Jennifer Graham's 2:26.60 top finish. Aztec sophomores Megan Storey and Ryan took the 500 free with 5:05.72 and 5:08.02 1-2 finishes.
The Aztecs other 1-2 finish of the day came in the 400 free relay with the team of Ryan, DeFelice, Graham and senior Tara Johnson taking top honors with a 3:40.40 time, followed by the quartet of sophomore Sarah Lattus, freshmen Ericka Sjoholm and Corey Henderson and Storey clocking in at 3:49.25.
Senior Meghan Casillan, DeFelice and Storey each earned two top finishes a piece. Casillan did so in th 100 (58.97) and 200 back (2:09.69), DeFelice in the 100 breast and 50 free (25.19), Storey in the 500 and 1,000 free (10:26.50).
SDSU opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay with the group of Casillan, sophomore Jill Karacozoff, Johnson and DeFelice finishing in 1:50.38.
On the other side of Saturday's double-dual, New Mexico defeated Air Force, 74-65.
SDSU returns to the pool next Saturday (Nov. 10) when it travels to USD for a dual meet.
