SDSU Track Busy In Early Signing Period

Nov. 28, 2001

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State track and field head coach Rahn Sheffield announced Wednesday the signing of two high school seniors to national letters of intent. Wednesday's transactions are a big step in the program's effort to rebuild its distance team.

Inking with SDSU in the early signing period are California product and middle-distance runner Jamillah Titus, along with distance runner Christal Cuadra, from Honolulu.

Titus attends Vintage High School in Napa, where she was a 2001 state finalist in the 800-meters with a time of 2:11.00.

"Jamillah is the best 800-meter runner we've signed since Kylie Edwards," said Sheffield. "She is an impact athlete and gives our distance team a huge boost. Signing her is a testimony to our new facilities. We never would have been able to get an athlete of her caliber without them."

Cuadra attends Mary Knoll High in Honolulu and was the state's cross country champion this fall.

"Christal has lots of untapped talent," said Sheffield. "She will be the driving force behind the rebuilding of our distance team. We will look to her to help the team regain its winning tradition."

The Aztecs' track and field team get their 2002 indoor season underway Feb. 2 in Reno, Nev., at the Bill Cosby Invitational.
