San Diego State Swimming Finishes Third at Pacific Invitational

SAN DIEGO - Sophomore Jennifer Graham had three top-five finishes on Saturday to help lead the San Diego State swim team to a third place finish at the 2001 Pacific Invitational Swim Meet in Stockton, Calif.

San Diego State ended the two-day event with 516 points, trailing host Pacific and Nevada in the final standings. The Aztecs outdistanced city rival USD for third place, as the Toreros finished with 362 points.

A native of Santa Rosa, Calif., Graham, who finished seventh in the 200-yard individual medley on Friday, followed that up with two fourth place and a fifth place finish on Saturday. She finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 59.87. The event was a strong for the Aztecs, which placed three swimmers in the top 11 as junior Tara Johnson finished sixth and junior Erin Kilpatrick placed 11th.

Graham led three Aztecs in the top eight in the 100-yard breaststroke, leading the way with a fifth place finish in 1:07.49. Sophomore Jill Karacozoff and freshman Jennifer Arrow finished less than a second behind Graham in seventh and eighth positions, respectively.

Graham's tied her best finish of the day when she placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.16. It proved to be another strong even for the Aztecs as San Diego State swimmers accounted for four of the top 10 positions.

Aztec senior Heather DeFelice, who had two top 10 finishes on Friday, turned in her best performance of the meet with a third place swim in the 200-yard breaststroke. Other Aztecs placing in the top 10 of the event included Arrow's sixth-place and Karacozoff's 10th-place finish.

The Aztecs will be back in action on Nov. 3 when they play host to Air Force and New Mexico at Southwestern Junior College in Chula Vista, Calif. That meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
