Women's Water Polo Falls To Hawaii

April 23, 2001

HONOLULU - No. 8 San Diego State women's water polo team fell to No. 5 Hawaii, 9-4, in the MPSF regular season finale for both teams at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex Sunday night. The Aztecs finished MPSF play with a 4-6 conference record and are 18-13 overall.

The Aztecs never led in the match but it was close throughout as UH never led by more than two goals until the decisive fourth quarter when Hawaii scored four unanswered goals. Kelly Falcone's goal at the end of the third quarter made the score 5-4 going into the final frame. But Hawaii's utility Karin van Hoff scored two of her season-high four goals in the last seven minutes to help UH pull away.

SDSU next competes at the MPSF Women's Water Polo Championships, April 27-29, held in Honolulu. All 11 teams will participate in the conference tourney, which will be held at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The Aztecs will face nine-seed Long Beach State in first round action on Friday.
