SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore golfer Lars Johansson was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Week after winning the Western Intercollegiate in a playoff round this week at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Johansson of Karlskrona, Sweden shot a career best 65 in the opening round en route to a 206 total (65-67-74) and managed to par the playoff hole despite a tee shot into the trees to defeat Pacific's Jason Higton. Johansson ranks fifth on the MWC leader board with a 72.3 average this season.
The last Aztec to win the Western Intercollegiate was Ron O'Connor in 1960. Golf professionals Dusty Waldorf, Scott Simpson, Tom Watson, Peter Jacobson and Bobby Clampett are a few others who have won the Western Intercollegiate.
