SAN DIEGO - The No. 8 San Diego State water polo team fell to No. 1 Stanford, 12-5, Friday afternoon at Bud Kearns Pool in Balboa Park.
Margie Dingeldein won the early momentum for Stanford by scoring in the first 12 seconds of play. Stanford went on to out score SDSU 5-1 in the first quarter.
Aztec Amber Prestegard scored the only two goals for SDSU in the first and the second quarters to bring the score to 7-2 at the half. Kelly Falcone of SDSU scored two goals in the third quarter. Freshman Holly Hartzell of SDSU was kept to only one goal in the fourth quarter. This marks the first time in ten games Hartzell has been kept under three goals.
Stanford scored two goals in the remaining minute-and-a-half to bring the final score to 12-5. Ten different players scored Stanford's 12 goals.
Aztec Ashley Zabel recorded 8 goalie saves and Heather Stiles of SDSU had four saves.
The Aztecs are next in action Saturday, March 31 against No. 5 San Jose State at 12:00 p.m. at Bud Kearns Pool.
