SDSU Aztec Track and Field Classic Final Results
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State hosted its biggest regular-season meet of the year Saturday at the SDSU Sports Deck and the Aztecs and did the home crowd proud, posting a number of top-3 finishes in the 17-team event.
San Diego State was solid across the board, posting strong finishes in the sprints, relays, hurdles, middle distance events, jumps and throws.
Junior Daveeta Shepherd ran a 14.07 to narrowly edge teammate Aja Frary (14.16) as SDSU went 1-2 in the 100-meter hurdles, while senior Marisa Robinson took second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.48.
The Aztecs other first-place finish was turned in by their 4x100 relay squad, which clocked a combined 46.51.
Leading SDSU's sprint corps, sophomore Melinda Smedley captured third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.06 and just missed a top-3 placing in the 200, finishing fourth with a time of 24.34.
In the 800 meters, junior Kylie Edwards was SDSU's top finisher, placing second with a time of 2:13.66.
In addition to her second in the 100-hurdles, Frary also posted a second in the high jump with a leap of 5-06.00. Marisa Taylor also took second in a jump event, leaping 38-00.00 in the triple jump.
SDSU also flexed its muscles in the throws, with freshman and Hoover High alum Candace Hill capturing second in the discus with a throw of 140-06.00 and third in the shot put (42-05.25).
San Diego State returns to action March 28-31 when the Aztecs travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the 2001 Florida Relays.
