Women's Water Polo Defeats Pacific And Loses To Loyola Marymount At The 5th Annual Gaucho Invitational

SANTA BARBARA - The No. 16 San Diego State women's water polo team (5-5) had a disappointing loss to No. 12 Loyola Marymount, 9-8, this morning at the Gaucho Invitational, hosted by UC Santa Barbara. They redeemed themselves in their second game with a victory over Pacific, 10-3.

SDSU was unable to pull out a close one against Loyola Marymount, losing 9-8. Junior Whitney Winlow and sophomore Amber Prestegard led the Aztecs against Loyola Marmount, both scoring two goals. Casey Finnegan, Kelly Falcone, Jackie Lopez and Holly Hartzell each recorded one goal for SDSU. Freshman Ashley Zabel had five goalie saves.

The Aztecs did claim a victory in their second game versus Pacific, 10-3. Winlow again scored two goals along with Finnegan, Hartzell and Natalie Nipper. Prestegard and Lisa Swain each scored one goal. Junior Heather stiles had seven goalie saves.

The Aztecs continue in the consolation bracket on Sunday. They will play their first game at 11:30 a.m.
