Women's Swimming Has Strong Showing in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - The San Diego State women's swim team started the second half of its season with a positive performance at this weekend's UC Irvine/Daktronics Invitational held at Anteater Aquatics Complex on the UC Irvine campus.

The Aztecs placed third out of eight in the distance portion of the invite scoring 81 points, sixth (133) out of 14 in the individual portion of the event and third (69) out of seven in the relay portion.

Highlighting competion in the distance events was freshman Megan Storey's first place finishes in the 1,000 and 500 freestyle. Storey swam the 1,000 in 10:20.16 and the 500 in 5:08.26.

The Aztecs also fared well in the 200 backstroke with freshman Aletta Haff and junior Meghan Casillan finishing second (2:11.40) and third (2:11.66), respectively. Freshman Megan Storey and Haff also took the No. five and six spots in the 100 butterfly with times of 1:01.73 and 1:02.05. Casillan also earned a fifth place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:14.58 and junior Heather DeFelice finished sixth in the 100 free (54.52).

SDSU also had a lot to be happy with in the relay competition winning the 400 medley (4:05.63) and 800 free (7:58.85).

San Diego State's schedule continues next weekend when the team competes in a dual meet with Loyola Marymount Sunday (Jan. 12) and a double dual with UC Irvine and Fresno State a day later.
