Women's Swimming Splits Double-Dual in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - The San Diego State women's swim team split its double-dual meet with UC Irvine and Fresno State Saturday at the Anteater Aquatic Center on the UCI campus. The Aztecs defeated host UCI 70-35 and lost to Fresno State 69.5-35.5.

San Diego State won five events on the afternoon with freshman Megan Storey earning two of those. Storey took the 1,000 (10:21.50) and 500 (5:05.31) freestyle. Also earning first-place finishes and season bests were juniors Tara Johnson and Heather DeFelice. Johnson won the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.28 and DeFelice the 100 breaststroke (1:05.70). Freshman Hannah Ryan won the 200 freestyle touching the wall in 1:55.91. DeFelice and Johnson also placed second (24.97) and third (25.47) respectively in the 50 free and junior Meghan Casillan finished second in the 100 backstroke (59.94).

The Aztecs earned a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay with the team of Casillan, DeFelice, Johnson and senior Mariana Luevano timing in with a season best 1:50.00.

Next week the team travels to Honolulu to compete against Hawai'i on Friday. The Aztecs close out the season with meets at Pepperdine (Jan. 24) and UNLV (Jan. 27). The Mountain West Conference championships will be held Feb. 14-17 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
