Women's Swimming Loses To USD

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's swim team won eight of 16 events, but it was not enough as the Aztecs fell 154-134 to USD in a dual meet Saturday at the USD Sports Center.

Juniors Heather DeFelice and Meghan Casillan and freshman Megan Storey each took two events. DeFelice finished tops in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:06.09 and 2:24.62 respectively . Casillan captured first-place finishes in the 100 (58.78) and 200 (2:09.24) backstroke. DeFelice and Casillan were also members of the first-place finishing (3:57.94) 400 medley relay team and finished second and third in the 200 individual medley. DeFelice swam the IM in 2:12.30 and Casillan in 2:13.70. Storey touched the wall first in both the 1,000 and 500 freestyle with times of 10:12.29 and 5:03.87 respectively.

The Aztecs performance also included a 1-2 sweep of the 200 free with freshman Hannah Ryan finishing first with a time of 1:56.20 and sophomore Erin Kilpatrick second (1:57.34). Kilpatrick also finished second in the 100 butterfly (59.19). Freshman Jill Karacozoff earned the Aztecs a 1-2 sweep of the 100 breast event finishing behind DeFelice at 1:07.81.

SDSU also finished second (1:43.38) and third (1:46.19) in the 200 free relay.

SDSU returns to action next weekend when it travels to Colorado for a pair of meets. The team will face Colorado State Friday at 2 p.m. before heading to Colorado Springs the next day for a 6 p.m. competition against Air Force.
