San Diego - Indiana scored the game-winning goal after a scramble in front of the Aztec net with just 45 second left in overtime to defeat San Diego State, 2-1, on Friday evening in Bloomington. The winning goal was put into the net by defender Kendal Willis after the Aztecs were unable to clear an Indiana corner kick as time ran down.
The loss dropped San Diego State to 2-3 on the season as Indiana maintained its perfect start, improving to 4-0.
The Hoosiers got on the board first when midfielder Katie Kastl hit a free kick from just outside the box into the upper right corner of the net in the 13th minute.
SDSU responded through freshman Kim Castellanos who, in her first collegiate game, scored with her first touch. Castellanos, successfully beat a Hoosier offside trap in the box after being put through by fellow freshman Rebecca Prilaman, then lifted the ball over Hoosier goalkeeper Shaunna Daugherty to knot the score at 1-1. That goal came in the 28th minute, and the contest remained scoreless until Willis' last-minute heroics.
The Aztecs outshot the Hoosiers 19-15 on the night, forcing Daugherty to make six saves along the way. SDSU's Linnea Qui?ones was called upon to make three saves.
San Diego State will remain in the midwest over the weekend, traveling to Ohio to take on Cincinnati on Sunday, September 10th, at 1:00 p.m
