Women's Volleybal Drops Pair Of Matches To Nationally-Ranked Foes

San Diego - San Diego State's young women's volleyball squad gained valuable experience in losing to a pair of nationally-ranked squads in day two of the Diggin' It 2000 tournament held at Cox Arena on the SDSU campus.

After opening with a three-game loss to University of San Diego on Friday night, the Aztecs dropped two more three-game matches to 10th-ranked Arizona (15-5, 15-2, 15-7) and 14th-ranked UC Santa Barbara (15-13, 15-7, 15-5) on Saturday.

The Aztecs' top offensive player during their three-matches at Diggin' It 2000 was outside hitter Zlatina Anguelova, a freshman from Sofia, Bulgaria, who led the team in kills (22), hitting percentage (.357) and digs (17) over the course of the three matches. Another freshman, Aspen McPartland tallied 21 kills over the weekend as did sophomore Nicole Akporiaye. Senior Monet Solberg saw her first action of the season on Saturday. and averaged almost four kills a game.

The going doesn't get any easier for the Aztecs this coming week as they prepare to face eighth-ranked Pepperdine on Tuesday, September 5, in Peterson Gym at 5:00 p.m.
