BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The San Diego State women's water polo team needed overtime to defeat the UC Davis, 10-9, Saturday at the Collegiate National Championships in Bloomington, Ind.
Jackie Lopez and Amber Prestegard both scored in overtime to give SDSU the victory. The Aggies' Anne Harter would score in the extra period, but Davis could not overcome a stingy Aztec defense.
Prestegard's overtime score capped off a five-goal performance by the freshman. Fellow rookie Casey Finnegan put the game into overtime when she found the back of the net with :50 remaining.
The Aztecs were forced to come from behind throughout the game. The Aggies jumped out to a 4-0 lead before SDSU settled down to score two before halftime. The Aztecs did not have a lead until Prestegard's game-winning goal.
Tiffany Hodgens netted six scores for Davis.
SDSU will play Massachusetts for fifth-place tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. EST.
