INDIANAPOLIS - San Diego State student-athlete Vanessa Villegas has been selected to participate in the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference which will be held May 28 - June 1, 2000, at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Student-athletes were nominated from NCAA member institutions that participate in the CHAMP/Life Skills program. The mission of the conference is to develop a diverse group of student-athletes who will actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to improve their campuses and communities. It will also provide them with the opportunity to explore critical issues facing their peers, to enhance leadership skills, and to promote better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators and faculty.
Villegas, a junior shortstop on the softball team, was one of 352 student-athletes who have been invited to attend the conference. She has been involved in the SDSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as several community service projects. The Hacienda Heights, Calif. (Bishop Amat HS) native has been a two-year starter at SDSU. Villegas came to Montezuma Mesa after one year at Chaminade University.
