April 9, 2000

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Diego State women's water polo team used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Long Beach State for fifth place at the 2000 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in San Jose, Calif.

Five different Aztecs scored in the game, including first-team All-MPSF and second-team all-tournament selection Larisa Baltgalvis. Shannon Halpin, Jackie Lopez, Kelly Falcone and Amber Prestegard also netted goals in the game.

Goalkeeper Curran Teigen, named honorable mention all-conference, snagged eight saves in the contest.

This was the third meeting between the two teams this year, with all three matches being decided by one goal. Long Beach State captured a 6-5 victory at the UCSD Tournament in February and the Aztecs pulled away with a 9-8 victory in overtime in Long Beach, Calif., earlier in the year.

The Aztecs will be back in action on Friday at 3:30 p.m., when they face UC San Diego at UCSD.
