SALT LAKE CITY - The San Diego State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Utah Saturday at Ute Field in Salt Lake City.
In game one, hurlers Sandra Durazo and Kristin Arbogast were locked in a 1-0 pitchers' dual which saw only eight hits the entire game with Utah connecting for six of those hits.
A home run by the Utes' Sunny Smith in the first would turn out to be the game-winner. The Aztecs would strand six runners in the game compared to five for the Utes.
Shortstop Vanessa Villegas was a bright spot for the Aztecs. She singled and doubled for both of SDSU's hits in the game.
The loss dropped Durazo to 20-8 on the season while Arbogast improved to 28-16.
In game two, the bats came alive for both teams. The Aztecs would use three pitchers to combat an onslaught by Ute hitters while Arbogast would go the distance for Utah.
The Aztecs struck first when Kellie Nordhagen came home on a Sarah Hershman ground out in the first inning. Utah responded with two runs on three hits in the home half of the first.
SDSU evened the game in the top of the second when Villegas doubled to bring home Tashie Agui?aga, but the Utes would go ahead for good with four runs in the bottom of the second.
The Aztecs final run came in the seventh when Kellie Nordhagen doubled to bring home Durazo, making the final score 7-3.
SDSU hurler Korin Gregory fell to 1-7 on the year while Arbogast is 29-16.
San Diego State falls to 19-23 overall, 9-5 MWC, while Utah is 30-20, 10-4 MWC. The Aztecs face UNLV on Thursday, April 27th, in Las Vegas.
