Jan. 6, 2000

The San Diego State women?s swimming team (4-5, 1-2 Mountain West Conference) defeated Utah, 116-95, and Loyola Marymount, 133-42, Thursday afternoon at Terry Pool on the San Diego State campus.

The Aztecs and Utes battled to a tie early in the meet, but SDSU pulled away in the final two events of the day -- the 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay. Heather DeFelice and Erin Stenvers finished first and fourth in the 100 breast, respectively, while the free relay squad of Heidi Matsumoto, Heather Gravendaal, Tara Johnson and Erin Kilpatrick won its event by more than five seconds.

DeFelice led the way for the Scarlet and Black as she was victorious in two events, the other being the 50 freestyle. Meghan Casillan, Johnson and Mariana Luevano each finished first in one individual event.

The Aztecs are back in action this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 8th and 9th when they head to Irvine for the UC Irvine Swimming Invitationals.
