Men's Soccer Defeats San Francisco

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men?s soccer game broke a three-game losing streak by downing the Univeristy of San Francisco, 3-1, in second-round action at the Nike-Coca Cola Classic at Santa Clara Saturday evening. With the win, SDSU improved its season mark to 3-5 while the Dons evened their record at 5-5.

The Aztecs got on the scoreboard first when Oscar Rodriguez head in a long pass from freshman Kirk Fonseca in the 12th minute. Just over two minute later, SDSU doubled its advantage when midfielder Milton Economy scored on a rebound of an SDSU shot.

San Francisco fought back to cut SDSU?s lead in half when it got a goal from Alex Akerjordet in the 30th minute to go into the break down 2-1.

San Diego State put the game away with just under 15 minutes remaining when sophomore Scott Schmid netted the Aztecs? third goal of the contest with assists by Kyle Wigs and Darren Parker.

Freshman goalkeeper Brian Barnes picked up his second win of the season while making five saves in the process.

Up next for the Aztecs is a short road trip to nearby U.S. International on Thursday, September 30, for a game against the Globe Runners scheduled to kick off at 3:00 p.m.
