Sara Weyandt begins her second season as assistant coach at San Diego State. Weyandt, formerly Sara Hanneman, was a four-year standout at SDSU from 1996 to 1999.
Weyandt finished her career in [apos]99 as the second leading scorer in Aztec history with 180 goals and ranked first in steals with 182. Weyandt currently ranks fifth in career scoring and fourth in career steals, after playing in 140 out of 144 games.
Weyandt registered one of the greatest all-around seasons in SDSU water polo history in her senior campaign when she scored 79 goals and added 27 assists and 128 steals. The 79 goals rank third in a single season, while the 128 steals are the second highest total by an Aztec. For her efforts, Weyandt was named an honorable mention All-American in 1999. She also earned honorable mention all-MPSF honors in 1999 and 1998.
After her career at SDSU, she coached in the prep ranks at Helix High School, Mountain View High in the Bay Area and Scripps Ranch High.
Weyandt graduated from SDSU in 2000 and currently lives in Encinitas with husband, Brian.
