Sandy Wright begins her third season as a member of the Aztecs coaching staff after playing point guard for SDSU for two years. A 1997 All-WAC Tournament team selection who was also an All-WAC Pacific Division All-Defensive team choice, Wright will be assisting with the coaching of the guards.
As a player, Wright was known for her exceptional defensive skills and experienced leadership on and off the court. She dished out a team high 162 assists (5.8 apg) and recorded 78 steals (2.9 spg) her senior season which ranked second and third in the Western Athletic Conference, respectively.
Against Hawai[apos]i in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament she scored a career-high 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field, grabed one rebound, recorded five steals and dished out seven assists with only just one turnover.
Prior to enrolling at San Diego State, Wright attended Lassen Junior College in Susanville, Calif., where she averaged 10 points, eight assists and two steals per game as a sophomore and received first-team All-Golden Valley Conference honors.
A native of Carlin, Nevada, Wright attended Carlin High School where she was a four-year letterwinner and led her team to the State Class A Championship as a senior.
