Lisa Bynum came to San Diego State in January of 2016 and serves as the Senior Associate Athletics Director of Marketing and New Media. In her role, she oversees the marketing and branding efforts for all 18 of SDSU’s sports.

Bynum develops and implements the marketing, advertising, media buys, community outreach, branding, promotions, ticket sales, sponsorship activations and game production for SDSU’s Football and Men’s Basketball teams. She supervises the marketing staff, as well as the SDSU bands and spirit squads, including the nationally-ranked Cheer squad and Dance teams. She also manages the marketing budget, has a hand in all functions of the Athletics mobile app and Aztec Kids Club, and serves as the primary contact for SDSU Athletics’ branding, logos, and IP.

Bynum oversaw the local, regional, and national marketing efforts for the opening of Snapdragon Stadium, SDSU’s state-of-the-art stadium in SDSU Mission Valley. She also led the marketing efforts for the Aztecs’ 2023 Final Four appearance, including the coordination of SDSU student travel to Houston, as well as the production of the Final Four celebration event in Snapdragon Stadium. She leads all campus efforts for the annual Aztecs for Life Blood Drive, the largest single-day collegiate blood drive in the state of California.

As a member of SDSU’s Senior Leadership Team, Bynum serves as the Sport Liaison for the Swimming & Diving team, who has claimed 10 conference titles since 2011, and the nationally-ranked Water Polo team, providing support to the teams and managing the coaching staffs.

Bynum came to San Diego State from the University of Iowa, where she served as the Director of Marketing from 2011-16. In each of her four years on staff, the Hawkeyes ranked in the top 25 for average attendance in Football and Women’s Basketball, while they ranked in the top 25 for average attendance in Men’s Basketball her last three seasons.

Prior to her appointment at Iowa, Bynum was an Assistant Director of Marketing at Kentucky from 2007-2011. While there, each of the sports she oversaw increased their average attendance.

Bynum graduated from Penn State with a degree in Marketing and later earned a Masters in Sport and Exercise Management from Ohio State. While at OSU, she served as a Marketing Graduate Associate and an Event Management Intern.

Originally from Amherst, Massachusetts, Bynum currently resides in Chula Vista with her husband Michael and daughter Madison.
