Leslie Coons enters her first season as an assistant coach at San Diego State. The 1997 graduate of Southern California holds a bachelor of arts degree in social science and history and brings a wealth of experience to the Aztecs? throwing contingent.
Coons is a two-time American record holder and three time All-American selection.
She received the Ramona Pagel Award for field athlete of the year in 2001 and the Arnie Robinson Award for field event athlete of the year in 1999.
She was the captain of the USC team that won the 1996 Pacific-10 Championship and went on to represent the Trojans at the outdoor nationals in Eugene, Ore., that season.
She was a participant in the U.S. Olympic Trials in Atlanta as well as being a member of the 1992 U.S. junior track and field team.
Prior to coming to SDSU Coons coached the throwers at San Diego Mesa College. She also spent time as a volunteer coach for Alexander?s Lightning Express.
She has also spent time as a personal trainer and physical therapy assistant.
