Jualeah Woods was named interim head coach of the San Diego State women[apos]s basketball program on April 16, 2013, after spending eight years as an assistant on The Mesa, including the last two as associate head coach.
Woods also serves as the Aztecs[apos] recruiting coordinator, while her on-court duties include working with the forwards and centers, as well as concentrating on team defense. Overall, she has 14 years of experience coaching at the NCAA Division I level.
Since her arrival in May 2005, Woods immediately got to work on the recruiting trail, playing an instrumental part in laying a strong foundation for the future success of Aztec basketball.
During her time on The Mesa, SDSU has won two Mountain West Conference regular season and tournament titles, and recorded three NCAA appearances, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2010.
On the court, she helped tutor four-time all-conference center Paris Johnson, who finished her career as the school[apos]s all-time leader in blocks and consecutive starts. Woods also mentored 2010 MWC Newcomer of the Year forward Jessika Bradley, who was tabbed a third-team all-league pick as a senior. This past season, center Malia Nahinu was named a third-team all-conference pick and garnered a spot on the MW championship all-tournament team, while senior Kalena Tutt was an all-MW defensive choice. Both Nahinu and Tutt were in their first years as starters in 2011-12.
Before coming to San Diego State, Woods was an assistant coach at Oregon State for five years, serving as the program[apos]s recruiting coordinator for the last three seasons. The Beavers made four consecutive WNIT appearances from 2001-04, and advanced to the quarterfinals in 2004.
Woods was an assistant coach for two seasons at California and started her coaching career at Santa Monica High School as both an assistant and later as the head girls[apos] basketball coach from 1994-97.
She was a four-year starter at small forward and two-time team captain at USC from 1990-94. The Berkeley, Calif., native helped lead the Women of Troy to four NCAA tournament appearances, including trips to the Elite Eight in 1993 and 1994 and the Sweet 16 in 1992.
Woods earned her bachelor[apos]s degree in public administration from USC in 1994.
