Jim Wynne begins his fourth season as the diving coach at San Diego State University. A former diver at Niagara University, Wynne has a solid background both as a competitor and coach in his specialty.
As an athlete, he had top-five finishes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference three consecutive years while at Niagara. Wynne was a Division I zone qualifier in both 1993 and 1994. Prior to competing at the collegiate level, he finished among the top five at the junior Olympics from 1986 to 1990.
Wynne was the head coach for men[apos]s and women[apos]s diving at Niagara University from 1994 to 1997. During that time, he recruited and coached two freshmen student-athletes to conference-championship qualifying and a placing in zones, and also produced a pair of academic All-Americans.
He was also the founder of the Niagara Sunbirds, a community-based diving club comprised of novice and junior divers. Most recently, he has served as the assistant coach of novice diving for Taylor Made Diving in nearby San Marcos.The 34-year-old Wynne is a 1994 graduate of Niagara with a bachelor[apos]s degree in political science.
