A member of the SDSU Athletics Department since 2003, Jenny Bramer serves as San Diego State's executive associate athletic director.
Under her watch as interim director of athletics in 2016, the football team earned a national ranking for the first time since 1995 and became bowl eligible for the seventh season in a row, and the men's soccer team beat the No. 1 team in the nation en route to being nationally ranked for several weeks following the win.
In 2021, Bramer was appointed to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee. As one of 12 members, she is responsible for all things related to the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, including selection, seeding and bracketing of the yearly 68-team championship field.
Bramer supervises media relations, video, marketing, and new media while coordinating external operations with development, JMI Sports, Legends and ticketing. She serves as Sport Liaison for men’s basketball, women’s basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball.
Some highlights from her time as supervisor of those sports and previous ones (baseball, cross county, women’s golf, men’s soccer, women's soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, track and field, volleyball, and water polo) include: two NCAA track and field national champions, men’s basketball's 26-0 start in 2019-20, five Mountain West women’s soccer championships, creation of the lacrosse program, establishing the Tony Gwynn Legacy Baseball Tournament, women’s basketball NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, and Stephen Strasburg pitching a perfect game.
Bramer's other areas of responsibility, during her time at SDSU, include spearheading risk management and gender equity efforts, along with leading the search for many of SDSU's current head coaches. Her other areas of supervision have included strength and conditioning, equipment services, compliance, financial aid, athletic training, team physicians, information technology, and human resources. She has also served as tournament manager for numerous Mountain West and NCAA Championships.
On the national level, Bramer was the chair of the NCAA Women's Water Polo committee and served on the Postgraduate Scholarship committee. She serves as the MW baseball liaison and various MW committees. She has also been appointed to various Women Leaders in College Sports committees and been on the advisory board for San Diego's branch of Women in Sports and Events (WISE).
A champion for providing opportunities for individuals to succeed, Bramer led a task force to create the SDSU Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan and continues to guide the LEADS program. She will be integral in the 50th Anniversary of Title IX Celebration forthcoming in 2022.
Bramer is highly involved in San Diego State's campus community, leading the school's Gender and Minority Equity subcommittee, representing SDSU as its Deputy Title IX Coordinator and serving on its Sexual Violence Task Force. She serves as a member of the SDSU Equity Council and was a member of the SDSU Strategic Planning Committee in 2019-20.
In addition to her daily tasks, Bramer created the Aztecs' health educator position, which introduced the SDSU Wellness initiative, enhanced campus health relationships with various groups at San Diego State, coordinated opportunities for every student-athlete to receive sexual violence prevention training, created an assault policy and a culture to report incidents, and developed an internship program that has provided dozens with a personal work experience in college athletics.
Bramer came to San Diego State in 2003 as an assistant athletic director for compliance, a title she held until 2004, when she was named an associate athletic director. In 2007, she was designated as the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and has maintained it since.
Bramer, prior to arriving on The Mesa, got her start in athletics at her alma mater, the University of Oklahoma. She was a development graduate assistant from 1997 to 1998 before assuming student-athlete advisory board advisor duties until 1999. During that same time period as an advisor, she was also the department's career center coordinator. She served as the color commentator for the Oklahoma women’s basketball radio and tv broadcasts.
In 1999, Bramer was elevated to OU's assistant director of compliance, and following a two-year stint, she was named director of compliance and held that position until she arrived in America's Finest City in 2003.
An Omaha, Neb., native, Bramer received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Oklahoma. She was an All-American high jumper for the Sooners and competed in basketball. She excelled in the classroom as well, receiving OU's NCAA Woman of the Year award, earning Academic All-America honors and receiving the Big 12 Postgraduate Scholarship.
Bramer is married to Ken Schiermeyer. The couple have two children, Henry and John.
