Helen Betancourt enters her first season as an assistant coach on Montezuma Mesa bringing with her five years of national team experience including competing in this past summer?s Olympic games in Sydney, Australia.
Betancourt is no stranger to collegiate rowing having rowed four seasons at Brown. During that time she won a gold medal in the varsity eight in the 1996 NCAA Championship and the bronze in the same event at the 1998 NCAA Championships.
The Philadelphia native brings a wealth of international experience having won the gold in the four at the 1996 Nation?s Cup (under-23 world championships). She finished fifth in the four at the 2000 FISA senior non-Olympic world championships and was a spare on the ?99 national team.
A graduate of Brown, Betancourt holds a degree in American studies. She is also a U.S figure skating gold medalist and enjoys reading, walking and ice skating in her spare time.
