bio entering 2023-2024 season
Greg Camarillo has dedicated his post-professional football career to working with student-athletes and helping them succeed in school and in sport. He serves as an Academic Mentor, a part-time role where he works one-on-one with Aztec student-athletes so they can fulfill their personal potential and get the most out of their time on campus.
While not at SDSU, Camarillo puts his student-athlete development skills to work running a non-profit organization, The Athlete Academy Foundation, which aims to serve, support and empower high school student-athletes in underserved communities and prepare them to be successful in college and post-graduate life.
Before working in student-athlete support, Camarillo graduated from Stanford University with an engineering degree. He was able to turn an undrafted minicamp tryout into an 8-year NFL career as a wide receiver for the Chargers, Dolphins, Vikings and Saints. After hanging up the cleats, Camarillo earned a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from SDSU in order to pursue his passion of working with student-athletes. He enjoys staying connected to the sport of football through broadcasting as a football analyst for NBC San Diego and the Pac-12 Network.
Camarillo is proud to have married a fellow Aztec alum, Sharon. Together, they have three daughters - Avery, Cameron and Sloane.
