Gary Rotto

Gary Rotto formally joined the SDSU Women’s Basketball staff for the 2025–26 season as the Special Assistant to Head Coach Stacie Terry-Hutson. In this role, Rotto leads strategic and long-range planning for the program, including donor relations, communications initiatives, and overall business planning.

During the 2024–25 season, Rotto established a communications and social media internship, mentoring a team of 10 SDSU students through a hands-on learning experience in media strategy and planning.

From 2022 to 2025, Rotto served as the Director of Federal Relations for the university, leading a wide range of federal policy initiatives. His work spanned general higher education and academic research policy, as well as emerging issues in the evolving landscape of college athletics.

Rotto continues to collaborate closely with Athletic Director JD Wicker, providing input and guidance to Congressional committee staff and local members of Congress on legislation and policy within the “New Environment for College Athletics.”

Since 2017, Rotto has served on the faculty of the School of Public Health, teaching classes in Public Health Policy. He developed and led a study abroad course in Vietnam and is currently developing a study abroad course in Oaxaca entitled "Health, Wellness and Nutrition through the lenses of Zapotec and Mixtec indigenous cultures." 

Rotto has a masters in social work from the University of Southern, a masters in Jewish communal service from Hebrew Union College, and bachelor’s in social work from the University of Texas - Austin.
