Colin Truex is entering his fifth year as assistant coach for the San Diego State women[apos]s rowing team.
For the 2005-06 season Truex assisted head coach Zebroski with the varsity squad working mostly with the junior varsity eight and the varsity four. The JV8 had an amazing season going undefeated against WIRA conference opponents and ultimately winning the WIRA championships with a impressive time of 6:35. The varsity four also experienced great success winning the San Diego City Championships and earning a third-place finish at the WIRA Championships. Truex also coached the third varsity eight to a fourth-place finish in the open eight event at the San Diego Crew Classic.
In 2004-05, Truex split time coaching both the varsity and novice crews. For the fall races, he assisted head coach Jennifer Zebroski with the Varsity Eight boat, as the Aztecs[apos] top crew achieved a best-ever fifth-place finish at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta and later emerged victorious at the San Diego Fall Classic. During the spring season, Truex coached the Novice Eight and Lightweight Eight boats to great success, including a team-high fourth-place finish for the Novice Eight at the San Diego Crew Classic and a third-straight gold medal for the Lightweight Eight at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships.
Upon his arrival at SDSU in 2002, Truex was responsible for developing and coaching the walk-on novice team, adding the lightweights to his duties in 2004. During his first two seasons, the Aztecs[apos] top novice boat captured first-place finishes at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival, San Diego Fall Classic, Parker Cup Regatta and San Diego City Championships. At the 2004 WIRA Championships he witnessed his greatest coaching success, as both the Novice Eight and Lightweight Eight came away with impressive victories. The Lightweight Eight would later place 10th at the elite International Rowing Association (IRA) national championships.
A native of Wethersfield Conn., Truex rowed collegiately for Colby College, a small private school located in Waterville, Maine. At Colby, Truex spent one year in a champion Novice Eight and three years in the top Varsity Eight boat. His Varsity Eight won medals at the New England Championships, Head of the Charles Regatta and New Hampshire Championships. Truex was also a two-time grand finalist at the Champion International Collegiate Regatta and stroked an open four to a silver medal at the IRA national championships. Truex[apos]s rowing experience expanded internationally when he competed for the University College London while studying abroad his junior year. His rowing career culminated with a trip to the Henley Royal Regatta where his eight competed in the Temple Cup.
After graduation in 2000, Truex took over as the men[apos]s novice coach for the Ohio State Crew Club. In his two years at OSU, the highly successful Novice Eight boats won medals at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships, Mid-American Collegiate Rowing Association (MACRA) Championships, and Big Ten Championships.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Truex also serves as SDSU[apos]s recruiting coordinator and continues to fill the Aztecs[apos] roster with talented high school rowers and coxswains.
In 2004, Truex was accepted into the San Diego State business program and is currently in the third year of his MBA studies.
