Austin Alvarez arrived on the Mesa in July of 2024 as the Aztec’s first Athletics Psychologist. Prior to joining SDSU, Alvarez worked with student athletes at Southern Illinois University from 2022 to 2023 and at OC Sport Psychology, a private practice for mental performance work in Newport Beach, Calif. in 2021.
Alvarez earned his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton in 2016. Following this, he obtained his Masters in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2018 and Doctor of Psychology in August 2023, both from Azusa Pacific University. Alvarez is also a Certified Mental Performance Consultant as of 2023.
Alvarez grew up in Victorville, Calif. playing both basketball and football throughout his childhood, framing athletics as one of the most important aspects of his life. Alvarez’ office is located on the 3rd floor of the FAC in the development suite.
