2024 Mountain West All-Academic Team
2024 SEASON (As A Freshman): Enjoyed an impressive debut campaign, helping the Aztecs clinch a spot in the Mountain West Championship…Ranked third among SDSU regulars in kills (185) and kills per set (2.03) while occupying the fifth spot in blocks (56) and blocks per set (0.62)… Appeared in 91 sets across 26 matches, earning 10 starts… Surpassed the double-dig kill plateau in six outings and posted at least three blocks on 11 occasions… Made her first collegiate start a memorable one vs. Seattle at the Idaho State Tournament, posting match highs of 16 kills, six blocks and a .696 hitting percentage, with the latter two representing career bests in a 3-0 sweep (9-1-24)… Made seven consecutive starts to open conference play, totaling 11 kills, three digs and three block assists in a narrow 3-2 setback at home to Utah State (10-3-24)… Came back two days later to launch 10 kills in a three-set whitewash of Nevada (10-5-24)… Followed that effort with 11 kills, three digs and a pair of blocks at Fresno State (10-12-24)… Blasted a career-high 24 kills and hit .347 in a five-set thriller over Colorado State… Also tied for match-high honors with four block assists against the Rams, helping the Aztecs complete the reverse sweep (10-17-24)… Played a key role in SDSU’s 3-1 triumph over UNLV after posting 14 kills and a pair of block assists (10-22-24)... Contributed eight kills and four blocks off the bench, including a season-high two solo stops in a home sweep of New Mexico (11-21-24)… Chipped in six kills, two digs and three block assists in SDSU’s four-set victory over Fresno State in the first round of the MW Championship (11-27-24)… Ended the year with five kills, one dig and one block assist in the conference semifinals against eventual tournament champion Colorado State (11-29-24)… Earned a spot on the Mountain West all-academic team following the fall semester.
PRIOR TO COLLEGE: Graduated in 2024 from Millennium High School, where she was a four-year varsity competitor for head coach Julie Vastine… Helped the Tigers to a combined 126-25 record during her prep career, highlighted by a Conference 5A state championship at the 2020 Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) tournament as a freshman to go with three subsequent runner-up finishes… Received AVCA All-America honorable mention and all-Region 9 honors following her senior campaign… Also garnered first-team all-Conference 5A accolades and was named the 5A Desert West Section co-Offensive Player of the Year after leading Millennium High with a .429 hitting percentage while ranking third with 244 kills… Also topped the squad with 98 blocks that season… Excelled in the classroom as well, earning 5A all-academic distinction all four years… Chose the Aztecs over the likes of Arizona State, Illinois, Boise State, Fresno State, San José State, Utah State, UC San Diego, Brown and Dayton among others.
CLUB: Played for the highly successful Arizona Sky Volleyball Academy, helping her Gold squad capture the National Division title at the 2024 USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championship, April 26-28, in Baltimore, Maryland… Earned a spot on the National Division all-tournament team following the event… Her club team also competed earlier in the year at the Northeast Qualifier in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as well as the Triple Crown NIT in Kansas City, Missouri.
PERSONAL: Born in Sun City, Arizona… Parents are Kenneth and Sandra Mitchell… Lists Asjia O’Neal as her favorite athlete… Intends to major in kinesiology at San Diego State with career plans to become a physical therapist.
