Bio entering 2023-24 season

Jesse Chapman enters his fourth season leading the Aztec jumpers after joining the San Diego State staff in the fall of 2020.

Across his three seasons, Chapman has mentored an All-American, 5 NCAA West Regional qualifiers, and 7 All-Mountain West honorees.

In 2023, Chapman oversaw his first Aztec All-American in Simone Johnson who finished 11th in triple jump at the NCAA Championships after a top ten in the regionals. In addition to Johnson, Jenna Fee Feyerabend qualified for the regionals in high jump. Both also earned All-MW honors as well.

The 2022 season was Chapman’s first full year with both indoor and outdoor schedules. The indoor season saw Simone Johnson (triple jump) receive her second All-MW honor along with Dejanea Thompson (long jump). Johnson would go on to be named All-Conference in the outdoor season in both triple jump and long jump and ultimately qualify for her second NCAA Regional in triple jump.

In the first year under Coach Chapman, the Aztecs had two jumpers qualify for the NCAA West Regionals and another earn All-Mountain West honors at the conference’s outdoor championships. Simone Johnson (triple jump) was a part of both lists while Jade Cany qualified for the regionals with the fourth-best high jump mark in program history.

Prior to coming to SDSU, he served as the assistant coach at Columbia University as the men’s and women’s technical coach for high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump and multi events since 2016.

Chapman coached the 2017 Ivy League indoor Champion in the women's triple jump indoor 2017, the back-to-back men’s indoor Ivy League Champion in 2019 and 2020, and the women’s high jump champion in 2020.

Before Columbia, Chapman was the assistant coach at Northeastern University and a Volunteer Assistant at Harvard University.

As a student-athlete, he graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
