Brendon Bray enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Aztec women's swimming and diving team. In his first year at San Diego State, Bray helped guide the Scarlet and Black to its best record since the 2001-02 campaign with an 8-4 mark in dual meets. He also assisted in the development of 2008 all-Mountain West Conference backstroker Katie Smith. Over the summer, Bray directed the Nike Boys and Girls Swim Camp, which was held at the Aztec Aquaplex for the first time. Bray came to San Diego State from the University of Washington, where he was the men[apos]s and women[apos]s swimming assistant coach for three years. During his time at UW, Bray helped coach multiple NCAA qualifiers and NCAA championship scorers. He also served as the recruiting coordinator and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Huskies[apos] swimming program. Bray also had a stellar collegiate career, competing on the swim team at Washington for three years before beginning his stint as an assistant coach. He was a senior national qualifier and ranks in the top 10 on the UW all-time list in the 200 backstroke. A native of Reno, Nev., Bray was a four-year letterwinner and an All-American at Reno High School. Bray received his bachelor[apos]s degree in economics in 2005 and his master[apos]s degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership (2007) from the University of Washington.
