2023-24 SEASON (As a Senior)
Doubles
– Competed in 33 matches including all 23 dual matches… Played on the second and third courts… Competed with four different partners… Tied for second on the team with 17 wins (17-12) while going 11-8 in dual matches, 2-1 in Mountain West matches and 6-4 in tournament play… Competed with Johannes Seeman 14 times… Beat Sacramento State’s Silva/Novak 6-4 on Jan. 19… Won three straight matches between Feb. 16-21, taking down Idaho’s Garza/Civera (7-5), UC Riverside Huynh/Sane (6-1) and Point Loma Nazarene’s Strassburger/Weeks (6-0)…Took down Loyola Marymount’s Nothhaft/Pantino 6-4 on Feb. 29 and Gonzaga’s Roider/Gomez Galvan 6-4 on March 11… Advanced to the Round of 32 in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships on March 1, defeating independents Brown/Thieler 6-0, 6-2 and Ball State’s Lancaster/Tran 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 10-4… Played 12 times with Bora Sengul… Earned three straight wins over Texas Tech’s Esquici/Gundacker (6-2 on March 17), Portland’s Skobelev/Brown (6-4 on March 22) and Nevada’s Destouet/Valente (6-4 on April 1)… Won consecutive decisions against New Mexico’s Matsushita/Tallakson (6-4 on April 8) and in the Mountain West Championships Quarterfinals against Destouet/Valente again (6-4)… Competed in four matches in the fall with Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice, winning two of three matches in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships against Cal Poly’s Ferguson/Haviv (8-4) and USC’s Kazuma Lee/Makk (8-5)… Played three times with Alexander Mandma in the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic in October, winning 6-2 over Boise State’s Toroman/Rietkerk and San Diego’s Kasday/Niranjan.
 
Singles – Played in 32 matches including all 23 dual matches… Finished fourth on the team with 14 overall wins and nine dual wins and tied for third with five tournament wins (5-4)… Played mostly on the third court… Defeated Tennessee-Chattanooga’s Gabriel Castillo-Sanchez (7-6, (7-2), 6-4) in the ITA All-American Championships… Won twice during the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic, beating Navy’s Luke Garner (6-1, 6-1) and San Diego’s Savriyan Danilov (6-3, 6-3)… Took down Joseph The, of UC San Diego, (6-0, 6-1) in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships… Ended the fall with a win over UC San Diego’s Zachary Pellouchoud (7-5, 6-2) in the Kramer Collegiate Classic… Beat Brigham Young’s Wally Thayne (6-4, 7-5) to begin the spring on Jan. 11… Won twice on Feb. 21, defeating UC Riverside’s Lucas Ibarrondo Suarez (6-2, 6-2) and Point Loma Nazarene’s David Strassburger (6-4, 6-3)… Had two more wins in conference over Saint Mary’s’ Diego Jarry (4-6, 6-1, 6-0 on Feb. 25) and Texas Tech’s Piotr Pawlak (6-4, 6-3)… Earned three wins in conference matches over Boise State’s Jett Middleton (6-4, 6-4 on March 29), Air Force’s AJ Moore (6-3, 6-2 on April 4) and UNLV’s Aaron Bailey (1-6, 6-1, 6-4 on April 18)… Earned a win over Utah State’s Mohammad Alkotop in the Mountain West Championships Semifinals (6-2, 2-6, 6-0).
 
2022-23 SEASON (As a Senior)
Doubles
– Competed in 36 matches including all 18 dual matches with four partners… Primarily played on the top court… Finished with a 16-16 overall record while going 12-6 in tournament matches and 3-2 in conference play… Tied Johannes Seeman for the team lead in wins (16) and paced the team with 11 tournament wins, one of just two Aztecs in double figures… Named to the All-Mountain West Doubles Team… Played 29 times with Johannes Seeman… Made the finals of the Kramer Collegiate Classic by beating Arizona’s Horwood/Sakagawa (8-5, Nov. 4), Oregon’s Breazu/Klov Nilsson (8-5, Nov. 5) and UC Santa Barbara’s Brady/Masjuan (8-6, Nov. 5)... Began March by winning eight straight matches to earn the No. 80 spot in the ITA rankings and Mountain West Player of the Week honors on Mar. 8… Took down UC Santa Barbara’s No. 25-ranked team of Brady/Jordan 6-2 on Mar. 2… Won seven matches to win the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships, beating independents Hansen/Isaia (5-3, 4-1, Mar. 3) and Miller/Wood (4-2, 4-1, Mar. 3) before defeating Boston College’s Kasten/Campbell (4-0, 4-1, Mar. 3), California’s Banthia/Overbeck (6-4, 4-6, 6-2, Mar. 4), UC Santa Barbara’s Mrsic/Jordan (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5), Mar. 4), Pepperdine’s DeJonge/Zeitvogel (6-4, 6-3, Mar. 5) and Nebraska’s Gleason/Mueller (7-6 (3), 6-3)... Opened conference play with consecutive victories over Boise State’s Arca Costas/Bott (6-4, Apr. 2) and UNLV’s Verboven/Dabic (6-3, Apr. 6)... Finished the regular season with a win against Air Force’s Mascagni/Kersten (6-2, Apr. 22)... Paired five times with Bora Sengul, earning a win in both the Battle in the Bay Qualifying (Atherton/Ornberg, UNLV, 8-4, Sept. 16) and the ITA Southwest Regional Championships (Otico/Pantino, Loyola Marymount, 8-5, Oct. 20)… Also played once each with Mathieu Josserand and Liam Spiers.

Singles – Competed in 29 matches including all 18 dual matches… One of two Aztecs to compete in every dual match… Played primarily on court No. 2… Tied for second on the team with five dual wins… Named to the All-Mountain West Singles Team… Won two of three matches in the Battle in the Bay Qualifying by beating San Francisco’s Moritz Hoffmann (6-1, 6-2, Sept. 16) and UNLV’s Milos Dabic (6-3, 6-1, Sept. 17)... Earned a victory in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships over Cal Poly’s Fernando Fonseca (6-4, 6-4) on Oct. 20… Opened the spring season with two consecutive victories, beating Arkansas’ Adrien Burdet (7-5, 2-6, 6-3, Jan. 13) and San Francisco’s Davide Cortimiglia (6-2, 6-2, Jan. 21)... Won three of four matches during a stretch in April, defeating UNLV’s Anton Ornberg (6-4, 6-3, Apr. 6), UC San Diego’s Phillip Lan (6-2, 6-4, Apr. 15) and Nevada’s Delmas N’Tcha (6-0, 6-0, Apr. 16)... His win over N’Tcha was the only 6-0, 6-0 result of the season for the Scarlet and Black.

2021-22 SEASON (As a Junior at Penn State)
Competed in 24 singles matches... Started the fall season on a hot streak, winning his first six and seven of his first eight matches... Strung together three straight wins to kick off the spring season... Primarliy partnered with fellow transfer Bora Sengul and the pair won three of their first four and six of their first eight doubles results.

2020-21 SEASON (As a Sophomore at Penn State)
Competed in a singles match and a doubles match in the dual season.

2019-20 SEASON (As a Freshman at Penn State)
Advanced to the round of 64 for singles in the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships... Finished with a 6-4 singles record in dual play including going 1-0 in the two spot and 2-0 in the four spot... Played doubles with a trio of partners in a pandemic shortened season.

PRIOR TO COLLEGE
Earned four letters at Cresskill High School in Cresskill, New Jersey... Named First Team All-New Jersey as a senior... Played as the top seed in the New Jersey Singles Tournament... Won the Singles Championship for Bergen County... Made it to the finals of the State Championships as a junior... Named North Jersey Player of the Year three times... Competed in the Orange Bowl, Easter Bowl, and Kalamazoo tournaments.

Chikaya Sato was born July 21, 2000, in Japan... Son of Tomoki and Megumi Sato... Moved to New Jersey from Tokyo as a ten year old... Is majoring in business administration.
