TitleVolunteer Assistant Coach (Goalkeepers)
Miguel Gutierrez
Miguel Guiterrez joined the Aztec men’s soccer program prior to the 2020-21 school year as a volunteer assistant coach. Guiterrez works with the Aztec goalkeepers.

“We are thrilled to welcome Miguel to Aztec Nation,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said upon his hiring. “He came highly recommended from some of the top goalkeeping minds in our country so I know our goalkeepers will benefit from his tutelage. His passion and attention to detail will fit in perfectly with the rest of the coaching staff as we continue to evolve that culture in the program.”

Guiterrez, a native of nearby San Ysidro, Calif., played as a professional all over North and South America with stops at CR Vasco da Gama (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Pumas UNAM (Mexico City) and C.D. Veracruz (Heroica Veracruz, Mexico) among others.

Following the conclusion of his playing days, he directed his passion for the game toward coaching goalkeepers. His experiences and exposure to different coaching styles throughout his career have played a pivotal role in shaping the way he trains goalkeepers. As a goalkeeper coach, Guiterrez has had success working with goalkeepers across various levels--youth to pro--and was most recently named the Goalkeeping Director for Albion SC’s MLS Elite League.

“I’m beyond excited to join the SDSU Men’s Soccer Program,” Guiterrez said after joining the staff. “It’s always been a dream of mine to represent my city at the highest collegiate level. I’m very grateful Coach Hopkins selected me to be part of the coaching staff.”
