2004: Played in 15 of 19 games despite battling injuries the entire season... Split time at defender and forward, making 13 starts... Totaled six points, after recording two goals and two assists... His goals and assists totals were second most on the team... Both goals came on headers in the 3-0 win over Air Force... Netted an assist in the 2-0 win over UNLV.

2003: Played in 16 of the last 17 Aztec games after missing the first month due to injury... Made 12 starts... Totaled seven points, including three goals and an assist... Three scores tied for fourth most on the team... Recorded an assist in the 2-1 victory over UC Riverside, his first game of the year... Scored first goal of the season in the 2-1 win over Hofstra... Couch[apos]s 35 shots was third most on the team, as were his 17 shots on goal.

2002: Despite being a late addition to the Aztec program, played in 18 of 19 games and received a starting nod 14 times... Emerged as a top offensive option, finishing fourth on the squad with seven points... Tied for third on the team with three goals and was second with 29 shots, with a team-high 16 attempts on goal... Scored his first collegiate goal in only his second game, tallying the Aztecs[apos] third score against St. Mary[apos]s to give SDSU a late lead... Earned a spot on Soccer America[apos]s Team of the Week (Oct. 14-20) for scoring a pair of goals in SDSU[apos]s 3-2 overtime win vs. No. 7 Loyola Marymount, the Aztecs[apos] first win over a top-10 team since 1989... Registered his first career assist in a win over Westmont.

High School: Four-year letterwinner for the Sabino Sabercats... Named Tucson all-city performer in each of his four years and earned all-state honors in his junior year... Also played football as a receiver and kicker garnering two varsity letters.

Personal: Matthew Ryan Couch was born Oct. 23, 1983, in Tucson, Ariz.... Son of Jeffrey and Theresa Couch... Majoring in political science... Is the 2005-06 recipient of the Brad Walsh Athletic Endowment.
