2022 Season
Was named the Top Drawer Soccer National Freshman of the Year and the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year after leading SDSU in points (18) and goals (7), two of which were game-winners… Became the first Aztec to win a Pac-12 major award since 2006 and just the second Aztec to win a Pac-12 major award... His 18 points was the most by a SDSU freshman since at least 2000… Tied for the team-lead with four assists… Also led the team in shots (38) and shots on goal (15)… Appeared in all 18 matches, made 17 starts and totaled 1,340 minutes... Was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region Second Team…After the year was a Generation adidas selection and was selected by Austin FC with the No. 13 pick in the MLS SuperDraft, the highest ever selection by an Aztec.

High School/Club
A four-star recruit, that ranked No. 73 nationally, No. 11 in Southern California and No. 15 among all forwards by Top Drawer Soccer… Played with San Diego based clubs Albion Pros Club, San Diego Surf and the San Diego Nomads before joining the LA Galaxy Academy in 2019… After being invited for a tryout with the San Diego Loyal, he joined their academy last in December of 2020 and then scored against the Galaxy in a preseason fixture…. Made two appearances with Loyal's first team in the spring of 2021 and scored his first professional goal… Attended Coronado High School.
 
Personal
Calvin Jay “CJ” Fodrey was born in San Jose, California to Natasha and Ron Fodrey… Lists Lionel Messi as his favorite player… Majoring in sociology... Enjoys playing basketball and surfing.

Coach Hopkins' Take: "CJ is a local guy that has all the attacking qualities we look for in our offensive organization. He has pace, can take players on 1v1, a powerful strike and can play in combinations. He has gained wonderful experience playing with the first team of the San Diego Loyal in the USL Championship and these experiences will help prepare him for the rigors of the college game and the Pac-12."
