Had a two-year on-base percentage of .518 with a walk-to-strikeout ratio of almost two to one ... A National League umpire for 31 years (1962-92) ... Overall, he umpired at various levels for 47 years ... Umpired 4,888 games during his career, including six All-Star games, plus games in five World Series and eight National League Championship series ... Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in July.
